Guidance

Prediction: What do you think is going to happen and why?

Variables: What are you going to change each time? The size of bottle? The size or material of the mouse? The weight of the mouse?

Fair test: How are you going to ensure that it is a fair test? By keeping the same bottle? By applying the same amount of force each time?

Method: Use bullet points and time conjunctions to explain how you are going to carry out the experiment.

Design Diagram: Draw a diagram of your Rocket Mice. Don't forget to label it.

Results: Record your results in the table.

Graph: Decide which type of graph is the most appropriate and complete it in the space provided. Square paper was given to you to use.

Conclusion: What did your results show? Have you answered your question? Do your results match your prediction? Describe your results. Try to use scientific vocabulary.

Evaluation: What went well? What didn't? What would you do differently if you carried out this investigation again?

Extension Questions:

  • Can you direct the mouse to hit a target?
  • What can you do to make the mouse travel further or faster?
  • What is the heaviest mouse you can launch?

Try adding measured quantities of modelling clay inside the mouse’s nose cone and make a graph of weight and height/distance travelled.

Please bring your completed investigations to school on Friday and we will discuss your findings.

I would love to see photos and videos of you investigating so please email the school office if you have anything that you would like to share.

Please make sure that you use Times Table Rock Stars, Spelling Shed and Reading Plus.

Have a great day!

See you all tomorrow.

Mr Smith
