English - WALT: Identify features of travel writing

Read through the texts on the link below. Think about the way the language seeks to tempt you and interest you by the use of descriptive words. Underline (or write down) the words that help with this.

Use a key and identify features of a travel text.

Features to look out for:

  • Persuasive language to tempt
  • Descriptive vocabulary to tempt
  • Second person
  • Commas for clauses
  • A range of punctuation (list what you find)
  • Any other features?

Look through the PowerPoint below and set up an experiment to identify the most streamlined shapes. If you have time, use this information to create your own boat. Please send me any videos/pictures of what you have done.

Gloucestershire Rockstars Championship

Hello Everyone, We just wanted to tell you about the ‘Gloucestershire Rockstars Championship’ that you’re all going to have the chance to take part in next week. It’s a tournament against lots of other schools in the area that will be played using Times Tables Rock Stars. The tournament itself will run over three days from 12th – 14th May between 10am and 1pm each day. The idea is that you will try to answer as many questions as you can during those times. You’ll earn a point for each correct answer and these will be counted to work out the highest scoring individuals, classes and schools. This event is optional, but it would be brilliant if we can get as many of you involved as possible! You don’t need to be on it continuously, just go on for as long as suits you between 10am and 1pm.
