English - WALT: Identify both sides of an argument
I will introduce this task during the 9am Zoom meeting. Look at The Big Debate page from The Week Junior (see below). Is the text arguing for one opinion? What do you think about the issue itself and the presentation? Notice how the ‘What you need to know’ section and first paragraph give background information and that then there are two Yes/No sections with the points for each side of the argument.
Read through the for/against cards on the sheets below. Sort the cards between the three topics and whether they are for or against. You do not need to write them out. You could colour code or number them.
Based on the evidence you have read, write a conclusion for each of the 3 arguments giving you own opinion.
Discussion Activity with answers
Example conclusion:
To conclude, I think we can say that some lies are wrong, some lies are right and some are a bit of both. It depends completely on what your intention is. If you are telling a lie in order to hurt someone or harm them, then that is completely wrong. If you are trying to avoid a problem for yourself and you are not harming someone else, then I think that is a half-right/half-wrong lie. Finally, I think that if you tell a lie to protect someone else or to protect their feelings then that is usually a good thing to do.
Sentence openers:
After looking at …
After discussing …
In conclusion …
I believe that …
After looking at the evidence…
After considering the arguments…

You have been set the challenge to redesign a parachute for a skydiving company. You are to design and create 3 parachutes and see which type of parachute falls the slowest. Think about a variable that will change with each parachute. See the PowerPoint below for more details. Complete the attached sheets.
Outdoor Classroom
This week I would like you to go outside and find some interesting natural objects that you can draw in next week's art lesson. If the object is too large, you can take a photo of it.
Have a fantastic weekend!
